Catherine Cai is a senior pursuing a B.S. in Environmental Engineering. She originally hails from the Pacific Northwest, in the beautiful city of Portland, Oregon. Catherine spent much of her youth exploring the Cascades on foot and on skis. Her favorite outdoor experiences from her childhood include exploring Ape Cave, a lava tube near Mt. St. Helens, and cliff jumping at Eagle Creek.
Catherine has been a guide with SC Outfitters since her freshman year. By becoming a guide, she hoped to be more able to share the wonder and beauty of the outdoors with others. As a sophomore, she was the organization’s Day Trip Coordinator; her biggest accomplishment was setting up reliable transportation for the organization by initiating and managing correspondence with USC Transportation. More recently, Catherine was part of the pilot OutdoOrientation program, a wilderness orientation trip for incoming freshman.
SC Outfitters is one of Catherine’s main passions and priorities because it unites unique individuals who share a love for adventure. She is constantly inspired by the experiences and dreams of other guides and hopes to continue spreading this passion to the rest of her community.
Catherine loves Shel Silverstein’s poem ”Tryin’ On Clothes” and lives her life by the following quote: “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain” (Vivian Greene).
