Cody Nelson is a senior pursuing a B.S. in Biochemistry as well as a B.A. in History. Born and raised in Medford, Oregon, he grew up hiking and backpacking throughout Oregon in the Cascades, Siskiyou, and Wallowa mountains. Cody has done a great deal of whitewater kayaking in the surrounding rivers, particularly the Rogue and the Klamath. Additionally, Cody has just returned from a semester abroad in New Zealand, where he spent his free time “tramping” and exploring the rugged beauty of those islands.
This is Cody’s third year as a guide for SC Outfitters. He has lead hiking and backpacking trips to Mt. Baldy, Mt. San Jacinto, Malibu, and the San Gabriel Wilderness area. During the fall of 2010, Cody served as Director of Public Relations and helped to revitalize the website. This year, Cody is the Trip Director for the organization and is responsible for overseeing the trip calendar and the trip-planning process.
For Cody, the outdoors is an escape, a refuge – he may currently live in Los Angeles, but he feels more at home in the mountains than the city. Cody feels blessed to have grown up with nature on his doorstep. He guides for SCOutfitters because he wants to give anyone and everyone at USC the opportunity to experience the wilderness that he has grown to know and love.
