Grant Ellman grew up in Portland, Oregon where he realized a love for the outdoors at a very young age. He began skiing with ‘Pa at the age of five, calling Mt. Hood and Bachelor home. On yearly road trips to Whistler, BC, Grant discovered downhill/freeride mountain biking to be his sport of choice. At the age of fourteen, he went away to boarding school at The Thacher School in Ojai, California. Here, he dug deeper into his passion for freeride mountain biking, taking two years to meticulously craft a big mountain/downhill line which drops over 1,000 vertical feet in 45 seconds of ride time. The line is still visible today as Grant’s mark on the mountains of the Sespe Wilderness. At Thacher, Grant’s love for the outdoors grew further as he was introduced to backpacking and climbing through the school’s incredible outdoor program. Grant lead many weekend backpacking trips in the local Sespe Wilderness, as well as several weeklong, ~80 mile trips in the Southern Sierra. Meanwhile, he also discovered a love for both bouldering and big-wall climbing, on Sepse’s John Potrero Wall, and Idyllwild’s Tahquitz North Face.
Here at SC, you’ll find Grant playing and producing music with his band, Fabriq, as well as hunting down Los Angeles’ best Mexican Food. He hopes to see you on one of his SCO trips soon!
