Martha likes being outside. She understands that nature can be all at once a great and terrible beauty, a lesson she first learned when she ate a poisonous mushroom at the age of 5. That experience has not diminished her enthusiasm for cool things growin out of the ground, however, and she’s a big fan of plants AND fungi. Martha is studying global health in hopes of one day becoming a medicine woman. She loves to travel and she is curious about most places in the world. This summer she hiked section G of the Pacific Crest Trail and maybe one day will do all of it!
Martha spends much of her time outdoors running, backpacking, or both if there are bears around. She was certified as an open water diver in New Zealand, and she has a penchant for ocean-related activities. Her dream of dreams is to ice dive near the South Pole. She can theoretically sail, but has never completed a successful solo journey. Martha would love to become a better climber and she hopes this year will be the one she summits Mt. Whitney, naked.
