Matt is a Junior at USC. He’s an English major, born and raised in Rockford, IL. Matt wrote this bio from the comfort of his bed while enjoying a fat bowl of cookie dough; however, he is not always this sedentary. He also enjoys hiking, sailing, surfing, skiing, biking, backpacking, soaking in hot springs, and reclining in a hammock with a dog. Ok that ended with some sedentary things but at least they were outdoors things.
In high school Matt had the opportunity to be a part of a trail crew in Colorado. This involved lots of camping, lots of nature, and lots of labor. He has a thing for Colorado– he returned two summers later to be a cabin counselor at Camp Santa Maria, a YMCA camp located in the shadow of an enormous Jesus statue that was (fun fact) THE largest statue of Jesus in the Northern Hemisphere at the time of its construction. CSM provided Matt with some quality experience leading hikes, teaching rock climbing, and reading Hunger Games out loud to the kiddies at bedtime (although he encourages reading out loud at all times of the day).
Matt’s favorite trip locations include Zion National Park, Death Valley, and Big Sur. He cannot wait to experience some new trips, explore some new places, and meet some new friends.
“Keep close to Nature’s heart… and break clear away, once in awhile, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean.” –John Muir
