SC Outfitters would like to formally welcome its inaugural Alumni Advisory Board members onto the team. The Alumni Advisory Board serves the SC Outfitters executive board “longboard” and guides, offering valuable insights and guidance for the effective management and growth of the organization. Each board member is chosen on an annual basis by the president and Alumni Advisory Board meetings are held on a monthly basis. Some major goals of the Board include developing a more active alumni network; fundraising through partnerships with corporations, alumni and other donors; and long-term strategic planning. Each member of the board has been chosen for their proven commitment to SC Outfitters and the experience they each possess from their own time spent as a student and guide at USC.
Andy Chu is a founding guide, a Longboard member from 2008 to 2012, and a Viterbi alum with a BS/MS in Biomedical Engineering. He is currently working as a Case Research Manager at Patexia, a startup working on crowdsourcing patent and IP related research.
Andy’s expertise is in product development with a specific focus on executing new product opportunities and developing a framework to sustain them. Some of his accomplishments while a guide at SC Outfitters include launching the web-managed trip reservation system, the membership program, the internal guide intranet, as well as the infamous First Aid guide retreat simulation.
Catherine attended USC from 2008-2012 for civil/environmental engineering and immediately fell in love with SC Outfitters and its group of passionate guides. For all four years of her career, Catherine was an active guide and participated on the organization’s Longboard as the day trip coordinator, Vice President and President.
Native to the beautiful tree-covered state of Oregon, Catherine loves spending her free time in the wilderness rock climbing, summiting peaks, getting lost amongst tall trees, and sleeping under the stars. When she isn’t doing one of the above, Catherine can probably be found working and pursuing her love of bridges.
Catherine began working for Kiewit Infrastructure West Co on the I-405 Sepulveda Pass Widening Project in Los Angeles, CA. She is currently a segmental bridge engineer on the SR 520 Evergreen Point Floating Bridge and Landings Project in Seattle, WA. Catherine loves being back in the Pacific Northwest and is so incredibly excited to be involved again with SC Outfitters!
Clara Suh is a founding guide and Price alum (’10). Clara is an energy planner who recently graduated from MIT with a Master in City Planning. She is currently working at the Home Energy Efficiency Team (HEET), an energy nonprofit based in Cambridge, MA.
Propelled to transform the original vision of SC Outfitters into a vibrant community of outdoor enthusiasts, Clara ideated (and filled) the Social Chair position for Longboard in 2008. A former Membership Director, she is particularly excited to join the Alumni Advisory Board and build ties between current and former guides.
