Hikes that are accessible via public transit
If you’re looking to get outside but don’t have access to a car, here are a few resources and suggestions for where you can go!
LA Transit to Trails
This website provides a comprehensive starting point for finding parks and trails that you can access from public transport, including a map and a lot of detail.

Alltrails collection
This is a collection of trails on Alltrails that are accessible by public transport, though not all of them have been verified. We recommend hitting the “directions” button and pasting the coordinates for the trailhead into google maps, where you can set it to give directions via public transport.

Our suggestions
Here’s a list of our suggestions that are somewhat reasonable to get to from USC. You can find specific directions yourself using google maps.
Griffith Park: 1 hour each way, two buses, one transfer. This park has many miles of different trails to explore, including the famous hike to the Hollywood Sign!
Kenneth Hahn State Recreation Area: 1 hour each way, two buses, one transfer. This is a small park in the heart of LA, and is near the Culver City Steps if you’re looking for a good workout.
San Gabriel Valley: 1.5 - 2hrs each way, with a host of different trails to choose from that start in residential areas but soon get lost in the wilderness.
Will Rogers State Park: 1.5 - 2hrs each way, a beautiful park with trails that head up mountains for views of the ocean and greater Los Angeles.
