Trip Description:
The Six-Pack of Peaks series returns for the fifth (and penultimate) time in an epic ascent of Mt San Jacinto, which towers 10k ft over the Sonoran Desert. Come take in John Muir’s favorite view on the 6 th most prominent peak in the lower 48! We’ll hike up the Devil’s Slide Trail out of Idyllwild starting a bit after 9am, have a provided lunch at the top, and descend in the afternoon. Note that it is a 2-2.5 hr drive to get out there, so this will be a full-day activity. Expect chilly temperatures at the top, potentially in the low 30s (this will become clearer once the trip date approaches). As the summit sits at 10800ft, be prepared to feel the altitude and make sure to stay hydrated. If you have a headlamp, we recommend bringing it in case we are still out around sunset or later at the end of the hike (we will ask if you need to borrow from SCO). We welcome both previous attendees of the series and newcomers alike!
